Wey Hill FC seems to be on the right track as some of our players have attracted the eyes of bigger clubs. Also, as it happens at amateur level, people’s lives take different turns and the club can lose key men.
This summer we had to say goodbye to 3 of our most influential players of last season, Nathan Stuart (midfielder) Relu Oprea (goalkeeper) and Andrei Muresan (forward).
If there is an example of how passionate people can be about football and how much that reflects in their game, Nathan is the man. He stepped up many times to captain us, to lead us from the pitch, to tell us off when we needed and to encourage us if things weren’t going our way. He was a true asset to the club and we thank him for his service. Nathan scored 2 in his 10 appearances for the club last season, alongside with a number of games and goals for our ex-Sunday side.
Relu has played 28 times for Wey Hill in the past 2 seasons and pulled some amazing performances in goal, keeping us safe and providing confidence at the back. He’s also scored once (penalty) and assisted 3 in his time with the club, a rare thing for a keeper but not unusual for him as he would probably hold the record for longest kick in GWAFL.
Andrei appeared 27 times in our colours with a beautiful 23 goals scored record. He will be remembered for his strenght and for the way he kept running and running and fighting for the ball even when everyone was out of juice.
Last shout-out goes to Alin Reut, a strong striker who netted 3 in his 15 games with Wey Hill FC.
Thanks boys and good luck with your new clubs!
